Forest Day May 6, 2019

The day started out cloudy but we never got any rain. The damp weather was great for finding bugs. We found worms, beetles, a mayfly, millipedes, and a couple we weren't sure about. We even found our first slug for this spring.

We noticed changes in plants too. There are more plants and taller plants. There were violets, wild strawberry, fiddle-head ferns, and many other interesting plants to see.

In the afternoon we had a very curious robin. It must have heard our plush robin and gold-finch sound figurines. We are getting pretty good at telling the difference between those two bird calls. (Sorry no picture)

We had lots of time to play with our peers. There was an ice cream stand and if you paid $2 (two pine cones) you could get strawberry or chocolate chip. Others built houses, added electricity poles, asked friends to tie them to a tree, practiced gymnastics, looked for Bigfoot (one child told me Bigfoot is his cousin), rode a train, and much more. The social skills and creativity were in full bloom today.

The first ice cream stand only had strawberry ice cream.

We also had some time to explore in the climbing classroom. We practiced checking if a limb is strong enough, making a plan how we cold get down, and waiting for someone else to finish their turn.

One standard addressed today was:
Self-Concept: B.EL. 1 Develops positive self-esteem.
