Sept 25 Forest Day

We ventured to the forest for the first time this year. Some of us were super excited and others a bit hesitant, yet once we settled in we had a great day. We appreciated the large trees and the shade they provided as the afternoon temps hit at least 90.

We explored the boundaries.

We listened to a story.

We built and balanced...

pretended and played (restaurant with sandwiches and Popsicles)...

and found treasures like feathers, bones, leaves, and mushrooms.

Many AM children tried different ways to bring down a rotting tree.

Many PM children made nests and took care of their "eggs"--even sitting on them to hatch them.

We finished our day with a snack by the fire pit--not lit so we can start learning how to be safe and it was way too hot for a camp fire.

As we wrapped up our day, I asked each child what they liked doing best in the forest today; here are their responses:

Morgan--"playing with rocks"

Emma D--"finding treasure like bones"

Scotlyn--"being a mom and everything and playing very hard"

Angel--"bones...playing with bones"

Kjersten--"like playing babies"

Kyra--"like having a baby and a baby bird and build a house"

Easton--"I love doing walking things like across a water"

Laila--"making some messes and I put my eggs on there"

Audri--"I like pretending I was making a baby bird hatch out of a egg."

McKenzie--"I was pretending my little eggs were little dinosaurs."

Jocelyn--"I like jumping off rocks."

Eve--"I like shaking the tree."

Brynn--"jumping off the rock"

Clay--"shaking that big tree down"

Emma S--"shaking the tree"

Eliana--"playing restaurant"

Mason--"giving lettuce to the restaurant"

Ryan--"shaking that tree down"

Will--"shaking the tree"

One standard addressed today was:
Creativity and Imagination
A. EL. 1 Engages in imaginative play and inventive thinking through interactions with people, materials, and the environment.
