In the morning we saw many animal tracks on our way down. In the afternoon many tasted the snow and tried to catch a few flakes on their tongues.
Some children were digging but noticed it was much harder to dig because the ground had frozen.
Both classes found ice in one of the tin cans and worked trying to find ways to break it--sticks, rocks, hands, and even boots were all methods they experimented with. They also tried adding snow and dirt to try to melt it.
There was lots of imaginative and pretend play going on. I noticed some children playing with different friends than they usually play with.
In the afternoon a few children decided they wanted to "be each other" and switched outer clothing. Just before snack and heading out we tried to get everyone back into their own coats, gloves, scarves, etc--hopefully everyone went home with their own gear.
