This week we found a little snow on the ground and some icy patches on the trail when we arrived. Both groups went on "an adventure" walk to get to the classroom to avoid the ice on the steepest part of the trail. We saw tracks on a few logs and all over the ground. (sorry no pictures--we were blazing a path)
In the morning the children did some exploring with tools--digging with the shovels and cutting broken trees with the saws. Later they all worked together to make a house and some were puppies, some kitties, and some people giving directions and handing out treats.
In the afternoon the children played more in pairs or trios. Some noticed a pine cone frozen in one of the tin cans and attempted to free it. Some rearranged the boards to make a house. Some imagined a fire and roasted marshmallows while others were concerned because the rocks for the fire were their horse eggs that were ready to hatch. Later many played hide-and-seek together. A couple worked to loosen logs so they could roll them to their "fire pit" area.
One child demonstrated their idea to keep their face warm.
A couple children spotted a bird's nest in one of the trees.
