January 8 Forest Day

It was sooooo good to be outside again after being stuck inside all of last week with the below zero temps. We had so much fun moving our bodies, exploring our surroundings, and using our imaginations.

In the morning there were many tracks on the trail again and some of us even saw a rabbit darting under some brush. We all stopped to examine a trail that led to a hole under a small log. Speculations about what made the trail included a worm, a snake, a caterpillar, a snail, and ants.
We still saw some tracks in the afternoon but most had melted or been stepped on.

In the morning various groups worked on melting or chopping the big ice chunk out of the tin can--it came loose and finally broke apart so the can is now empty.

In the afternoon there was lots of cooking--soups, sandwiches, and roasted marshmallows were on the menu.

Both groups wanted to dig and climb or hang on trees.

The afternoon group decided to switch coats again which led into the whole group playing school. The teacher had many lessons. They learned about unicorns, science, and how to fish.

We had our snack time by the fire pit and everyone roasted a real marshmallow besides having the snack provided.

One standard addressed today was:
