Forest Day Feb 4, 2019

We finally made it back to the forest and thankfully last week's subzero temps were a distance memory. The rain dissipated before we arrived in the forest and we thoroughly enjoyed the 40 degree day we had today.

We LOVED the snow. We rolled and slid in it. We decorated trees with it. We rolled large snowballs and made a porcupine.

Today shovels were introduced so we practiced turn taking. They dug snow and some dirt.

We read The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog and went up to the fire pit in small groups to roast one.

There were animal discoveries too. We saw a large urine patch, found solid scat, and saw where deer had cleared snow from the large pumpkin and eaten some of it. In the morning some kiddos used a stick to knock the dead mouse from a couple weeks age out of the tree and some other kiddos made a house for it. In the afternoon Mrs. Hruby found many owl pellets--we will explore those later this week.

We had fun with friends too.

One standard addressed today was:
Curiosity, Engagement, and Persistence

A.EL. 1 Displays curiosity, risk-taking, and willingness to engage in new experiences.
