Forest Day Sept 21, 2020

Great day in the forest--curiosity and creativity were abundant!

We were soooo busy today. Some children spotted Pegasus flying in the trees and later held her in their arms. Other children were a family of polar bears. Sticks became construction tools or a bone for the dog (Mrs. Bender) to fetch.

Many treasures were found including a feather, a stump that looked like a camel (sorry no pic), mushrooms, a cicada exoskeleton, interestingly shaped sticks, worms, and a jaw bone. One of the teeth was loose and an Early Learner pulled the tooth out. We saw the holes where the roots of the tooth went into the jawbone (there was some talk about the tooth fairy visiting the forest....)

Children were busy balancing and climbing. One child built a teeter totter--after experimenting a bit made adjustments so it worked even better. Many children enjoyed using it and experimented further with walking on it and feeling how the weight shifted the ramp. Others climbed on the rock, balanced on o split log that rocked, moved logs and walked on them, and more.

One standard addressed today was: General Cognition and Knowledge--Exploration, Discovery, and Problem Solving-- A.EL. 3 Applies problem solving skills
