March 13 Forest Day

The snow was back and we made the most of it. It was chillier this week than it has been in a while so we had to remember to keep moving and keep hats & gloves on if we wanted to stay warm.
We made discoveries.

In the morning, by chance, we found out we could knock the snow off the trees and Landon said, "It's a dream come true."

The morning class also had time to walk down and see the swamp where Mrs. Hruby and Mrs. Hartley may or may not have gotten the swamp water for last week's Dinosaur Treat recipe ;)

Both classes used the potato peelers for the first time to whittle sticks for cooking.

Some dinosaurs were plant eaters so we had trees (broccoli) and some were meat eater so we had meat (hot dogs). I'm pretty sure the dinosaurs did not cook their dinner but we roasted the hot dogs at the fire pit.

We were busy digging.

We were busy building.

We were busy sliding.

It was a great day to be in the forest. Hope to see you at Family Fun Day tomorrow--it's our last in the classroom one and Miss Nogee will be coming down to talk with the adults about kindergarten in Rio.

One standard addressed was:
Exploration, Discovery, and Problem-solving
A. EL. 3 Applies problem solving skills.
