Forest Day Nov 5, 2018

We were excited to be back in the forest and we noticed more leaves on the ground today than last week. We also brought our classroom pumpkins out with us. After reading about Goldilocks and the Three Bears, we took some time to carve open the pumpkin. Everyone had a turn to pull out at least one seed and plant it wherever they wanted (inside the boundaries). There was further pumpkin play and exploration. A few children chose to taste the seeds. I prefer mine roasted and salted.

Other play included building and constructing--bridges, teeter totters, ramps, a farm with sheep, a campfire for cooking corn and bear, motorcycles, and a 4 wheeler.

In the afternoon, we found a beetle. It had been about 2 inches down in the sand. After looking it over and watching it hold on to a stick, it was reburied in the sand to settle in for winter.

In the morning, a small tree broke off leaving a pointy stump. We took turns learning how to safely use the hand saw to cut it off so no one would trip on to it.

One standard addressed today was:
Curiosity, Engagement, and Persistence--A.EL. 2 Engages in meaningful learning through attempting, repeating, experimenting, refining, and elaborating on experiences and activities.
