Forest Day Feb 26, 2018

Ice greeted us this morning as we headed down the trail--Some slid on the bottoms, some on their bellies and some just walked. It was still icy in places in the afternoon but more ice had melted so it the wet mud was slippery too. As we left in the afternoon we saw little muddy streams running down the hill--one child said, "That's like Willie Wonka's River"

There was LOTS of interactive play among all the children, as well as, LOTS of exploration of the ice. In the AM it was all about crunching up the thinner layers, but they also noticed designs in and under the ice. The ice that had circles in it was called "cheese ice". In the PM there was more focus on sliding and skating on what was left of the ice, as well as scooping it up in the tins. We had to return to school early in the afternoon because our bus was needed for a forensics meet. We ate our snack and played in the outdoor classroom at the elementary school.

I asked each child what they had fun doing today and here are their replies:

Eve (today's AM snack helper)--"eating my snack"

Brynn--"breaking the ice"

Clay--"cutting that wood"

Emma S--"breaking the ice and ice skating and bending the tree"

Will--"eating snack"

Jocelyn--"playing hospital and pets"

Mason--"I liked scooping up the ice."

Eliana--"eating emoji snack and cutting down that tree"

Ryan--"breaking the ice"

Scotlyn--"playing wolf and bear"

Morgan--"slippering on the ice"

Emma D--"I want to be alone and I like being alone over here" (on the ice puddle while standing next to the friend she played with most of the day)

Easton--"I like being trolls."

Laila--"wolf and trolls and bears"

Audri--"playing wolf"

McKenzie--"I like to play with Audri."

Kyra--"I like to play trolls and her (Morgan) was Branch and Easton was father. We love playing ice skating."
