Forest Day April 2, 2018

We were back from spring break but it was chillier than when we left! We read The Three Little Pigs and some children chose to build houses of sticks, pine needles, and dirt. Most asked if I could blow them down--I couldn't.

In the morning we had a chance to walk down to Mr. Jared's classroom and see the "swamp water"pond. His class had built a large house of sticks so we tried to blow it down together. They are good builders and it is still standing.

Many children balanced on various objects.

Others used their muscles to move logs.

In the afternoon we had to use problem solving to get a tiny troll, that was thrown in the air, out of a tree.

Other ways we problem-solved was through discussions and bargaining about where to build and what to use--how to share the resources we had available.

We ended our day by roasting marshmallow peeps at the campfire. Try it yourself sometime--they are a little different than plain marshmallows. Thank you Mrs. Schmitt for bringing the peeps! We let Ms. Nogee try one too.

One standard addressed today was:
Exploration, Discovery, and Problem-Solving
A. EL. 3 Applies problem solving skills.
