Forest Day Oct 16
We had a beautiful fall day to explore the forest. In the morning we found a bug that looked like a leaf and found out it does not swim--don't worry we rescued it and turned it loose away from the stump with water in it. In the afternoon we came across a tiny toad--he was a little stressed after meeting the many faces and hands that wanted to hold it, but it too was turned loose safely just outside our classroom boundaries.
We did some digging and found a box of treasures--everyone had one when they left today.
We used our imaginations and...
... went to "wiggly music class" where some shook their booty...
...rode on a pretend bus--you could "choose to be 5 or 4 years old so you can sit on Mrs. Bender's side or Miss Nogee's side" of the bus...
...and made spaghetti soup and horse food.
Some children used clipboards, paper, and crayons to make leaf rubbings.
There was still time to balance, explore, read, and build.
Some children discovered a bone makes a good drum. It makes different sounds depending on what you hit with it.
We are wondering what we will discover next week.
One standard addressed today was:
Listening and Understanding
A.EL.1 Derives meaning through listening to communications of others and sounds in the environment.
