Oct 30 Forest Day

The temperatures were quite a bit cooler today and in the afternoon we had our first snow pellets; I wish you could have heard the squeals of excitement and the laughter!

Shovels and other diggers were introduced and many tried them out. We discovered roots and buried pine cones. In the morning one child said, "Bury me but not my face" so some of her classmates did and when she was done she broke through and got out by herself.

Pretend play included a map of Rio, horse homes, food, hunting, rescuing a hurt baby deer including taking it to the hospital and fishing.

Town hall, a church, the bowling alley, and a few other buildings were added
One child called 911 and the others took care of the baby deer
 Making hunting plans
 Horse in its house
 Birthday cake and a candle
Horse in house waiting for the baby to hatch from the egg
 Mixing soup
Decorating the horse house "so it won't get dirty"
 Fishing
Fishing--"I caught a big one"

The pumpkins we carved on Friday also came out to the forest so we could explore them more. Many reached in and found seeds, others make pumpkin pie with the seeds, and one painted a rock using the top of the pumpkin.

One standard addressed today was:
Exploration, Discovery, and Problem-Solving
A. EL. 1 Uses multi-sensory abilities to process information.
